Heritage Walk

I seldom call myself as “tourist” ever since working in Singapore. In this highly assimilate culture and identity island, sometimes we have a difficult time to differentiate foreigners from locals. A lady stands next to you in MRT speaks localized Chinese or rojak chinese: ” 我不understand啦 ,等下才call back你 “, not necessarily a Singaporean. You speak Bahasa Melayu to a Malay youngster in a hawker stall: ” Dik, berapa tu? ” then he stuns at you as if you come from Avatar and speak Na’vi to him. Then you can confirm he is a Singaporean.

I decided to explore some tranquility and slow pace side of Singapore during my year end short break. It was quite a surprise to find out heritage side of Singapore somewhere near Farrer Park.

Old style shop houses along Jalan Besar

I believe upstairs are still occupied although they look ages and lack maintenance. They are so much different from shop houses along Jalan Petain which have colourful design and well decorated.

I love the colourful window. So vintage and classic! Isn’t it resembled to Mirosoft Window’s logo?

To complete the journey, Siang stayed a night at heritage Kam Leng building, Hotel Kam Leng.index

How about the pathway?

The hotel rooms are squeezed along two hallways. My room is rather small even though it is an executive room. So I guess twin room would be even smaller. As the hotel is situated along a busy street, I couldn’t get a tight sleep which contributed to the overall low rating.

The short break relaxes my tension soul and hug for a brand new year.

Happy 2013.

The ambiance was awesome by nature.

Sweet when gather with families, total chill out with friends and romantic with loves one. Tthe food was a bit pricey and could not make it to our expectation. After all, the great scenery was billed in general acquiescence.

Catcha!! What is she doing? ^^
